Primary beam effects of radio astronomy antennas – II. Modelling MeerKAT L-band beams

چکیده

After a decade of design and construction, South Africa's SKA-MID precursor MeerKAT has begun its science operations. To make full use the widefield capability array, it is imperative that we have an accurate model primary beam antennas. We taken available L-band full-polarization 'astro-holographic' observations three antennas generic electromagnetic simulation created sparse representations beams using principal components Zernike polynomials. The spectral behaviour spatial coefficients been modelled discrete cosine transform. provided Zernike-based over diameter 10 deg averaged in associated software tool (EIDOS) can be useful direction-dependent calibration imaging. more for diagonal elements Jones matrix at lower frequencies. As get measurements simulations future, especially cross-polarization patterns, our pipeline used to create beams.

OLFAR - Orbiting Low Frequency Antennas for Radio astronomy

New interesting astronomical science drivers for very low frequency radio astronomy have emerged, ranging from studies of the astronomical dark ages, the epoch of reionization, exoplanets, to ultra-high energy cosmic rays. Huge efforts are currently made to establish low frequency Earthbound instruments, since today’s technology is able to support this. However, astronomical observations with E...

High time resolution observations at 115 MHz and 150 MHz have confirmed the marching subpulse behavior of CP1919 and AP2015+28 reported by Drake and Craft,I and have revealed similar behavior in MP0031 and CP0808 (Fig. II-1). The marching patterns for all four pulsars slope in the same sense; i. e., subpulses occur slightly earlier within the average pulse window with each succeeding pulse. Sim...

Mitigation of Radar Interference in L-band Radio Astronomy

The 1215–1400 MHz band is important for spectroscopy of H i at high redshift, pulsar work, and SETI. Observations at these frequencies are complicated by pulsed interference from ground-based aviation radars. In this paper, we characterize one such radar received at the Arecibo Observatory using coherently sampled data sets obtained during a recent observation. Using these data, we demonstrate ...
